Flashback Sunday - NOSTALGIA - YOUNG LOVE - Award Winning Romantic Short Film. This film was officially completed 8 years ago today.

I re-watched a film that I completed before I turned 30 that sort of jump started my career and overall path.

WATCH HERE on YouTube

The good: Since it was posted on YouTube in December 2009, as of today it's garnered over 1,689,462 hits.

The interesting: A rare film that I made my money back and then some from a distribution deal that lasted 2 years, and then when that expired and we put it on YouTube, the Google ads from the YouTube channel that can really add up.

Amazingly enough this film only cost $375 to make. I got lucky, plus I've always been a better producer than a director. But I really did get lucky. I worked with many of the key creative talent (DP, Editor, Sound Designer, Main Actress) at just the right time. All needed to work more to gain experience and all were already extremely talented and have gone onto successful careers. Catch anyone of these people six months previous, they would not been experienced enough to pull off what they did. Catch them six months later, I wouldn't have been able to afford them. Funny how that works.

It has currently 6666 likes (amazing #) and 1590 dislikes. Both are a solid #s.

Some people really don't like this film, which I find interesting because if I was 20 years old and watched this film I wouldn't have liked it either. It's funny how much you can change through time. I would have thought this film to be too wanky and on the nose about lost love. But after experiencing some things....you grow.

That's all I've ever tried to do - create truth in emotion when telling stories. And this was another project to try to figure that out. I was really feeling "nostalgic" about a few past relationships in my past so this was my attempt to tell my side of things, while perhaps being a bit therapeutic and get me to not get "nostalgic" about the past and move forward.

I amalgamated three relationship with girls in my teenage and early 20s years. For some reason, especially when you're young, both men and women can get all wrapped up in relationships that don't work out and wonder why. Usually it's because of bad timing with a combination of lack of a deep connection with either couple with not being mature enough to handle the relationship. AKA - When you're young you are just really stupid because you are feeling too much without enough knowledge to fully understand what you're feeling. Then you add sex with another person to the mix and a lot can go bad (while a whole lot good occurs). This is what I was attempting to show while entertaining people at the same time.
